I use Turnkey Linux for some machines when I need a quick server appliance and I don’t have time to build one from scratch. Turnkey provides the OVF templates for their virtual machines. This allows you to deploy a virtual machine quickly to ESX/ESXi using VMWare vSphere. I’ve ran in to a few problems installing Turnkey LAMP (and other) servers, mainly the fact that udev hangs on update. Here’s how to get around that.

OS X Lion needs a few tweaks from stock to really make the system cook so I’ve added them in this post as a record for myself and hopefully a help to someone. MacBook Air key mapping tweaks to use the same Home/End/PgUp/PgDown keys in Cocoa apps and Terminal/Vim type applications. Stop Safari from prompting when you attempt to navigate away from a form. The missus got my hand-me-down Macbook Air 13″ (2010) 256GB/4GB and I bumped up to the 13″ i7 MacBook Air (2011). Since my MacBook was a fresh install, I decided to keep it that way and looked at it as a chance to clean things up a bit. Since I had a Carbon Copy Cloner image and a Time Machine backup, I started tweaking my system. I noticed that the terminal and vim in the terminal no longer were supporting colors and remembered that I had to tweak this in Snow Leopard. Some things have changed in Lion and SIMBL and ANSI colors are now supported natively (wow, only took 20 years Apple…).
